"Suparinpei", this kata is also known as Suparenpai, Suparunpei and Suparenpei. Suparinpei translates as “One Hundred & Eight Hands”. Derived from much older Chinese forms and developed in Okinawa by the founder of Goju-ryu, Miyagi Chojun. This kata is considered the ultimate kata in the Goju-ryu system.Consisting of many challenging stances, turns and techniques, it is usually taught at senior black belt level in Okinawa. However it is also one of the most popular choices for kata performers at national and international level due to its striking poses and mix of hard/soft and slow/fast techniques. Executing this kata well athletically and with an authentic understanding of the original nature of the kata is something that takes a lot of work and insight into the true nature of the kata from a traditional teacher. Masuda sensei (Kyoshi 7th dan) is a recognised senior instructor for traditional Goju-ryu kata, holding the position of Technical Advisor on the technical committee of the JKF Gojukai and a seniorinstructor for the OGKK in Okinawa. He has twice won the world championships in Okinawa with his kata performances
