Shotokan (松濤館, Shōtōkan) is one of the most popular karate style worldwide, developed from various martial arts by Gichin Funakoshi (1868–1957) and his son Gigo (Yoshitaka) Funakoshi (1906–1945). Gichin Funakoshi was born in Okinawa and is widely credited with popularizing "karate do" through a series of public demonstrations, and by promoting the development of university karate clubs.

Hokama Tetsuhiro is a 10th degree Okinawan fighting arts teacher, noted historical scholar and author, and accomplished artist in Shodo, japanese style calligraphy. His art is commissioned and sought out for display in dojos, homes and public installations.

This scroll comes with cord for vertical hanging but can also be mounted in a frame.
